Song Selection Process
  It was a formidable task to compile select early Beatles songs. Partly I considered how much I heard each song back in the day, as well as how much I liked each back then.
  The first set of songs, “Early Era Excellence”, are of course their very best of that time frame, accounting some for chronolgy, culminating in their developing new sound that takes them into their more experimental and creative phase.
  The second set, “Other Early Era Essentials”, consists of concurrent songs too good to be omitted.
  And the third set, “Select Early Era Covers”, focuses on The Beatles’ stand-out covers back then.

  The compilation’s three sets consist of songs before the Rubber Soul album, which came out in December of 1965, which is considered the pivotal album away from their early music.
  This is not just my opinion. I checked, and AI supports this view: ‘Even though “Day Tripper” and “We Can Work It Out” kick off Past Masters Volume Two (the “late era” collection), they are structurally, lyrically, and stylistically the ultimate bridge tracks. They represent the exact tipping point where the band was transitioning out of their early “mop-top” pop phase into heavy studio experimentation.’ So I included those two songs representing the climax of their early years.
  Prior to this set of early-era songs, I compiled a select Beatles mix that spans their entire career, entitled “Beatles, The– selected (Another Greatest Show on Earth)”, which I have yet to release to the public. A second and final volume of such select Beatles works is planned sometime after I complete this project.
 
The files used in this compilation are part of the September 9, 2009 (9/9/09) re-release of nearly all of The Beatles’ official studio catalog (UK & USA), digitally remastered and released on CD.
